Vail Valley Lacrosse Character Statement

At Vail Valley Lacrosse Club, we value character, sportsmanship and excellence and expect that our families will as well. As we work to become the best youth sports experience in the world, we seek the assistance of our players and families to live the high standards we set for ourselves.

Lacrosse has deep roots in America. It is America’s first sport handed down to us from the Native American’s. It is a special game with deep meaning. The American Indians call it the Creator’s Game and it has been played since the 1100’s. As we enjoy this great game let’s keep in mind its roots and how lucky we are to be able to play.

Below are our guiding principles so that you can internalize what it means to be a member of the Vail Valley Lacrosse family.

1.    Display Sportsmanship – The game is greater than the individual. Respect opponents, officials, fans and facilities. These are all gifts that we are responsible for maintaining.

2.    Be Responsible – The health of our organization and this great game of lacrosse is in your hands. Make wise decisions. Behave in ways that brings positive attention to you, your family and our club.

3.    Be a Great Teammate – In life, in nearly everything you do, you will answer to or be responsible for others. Being a great teammate will help you be successful. To be a great teammate, put the needs of others in front of your own needs. Help a teammate up, guide them to make the right choices. Be there for them.

4.    Be Excellent - You have a talent and a skill that will make us excellent, but only if you give your best. Excellence is not an act, it is a state of mind that permeates everything you do and are.

Vail Valley Lacrosse is an open and inclusive club that is committed to providing a positive culture for our members to grow and develop as lacrosse players and young men and women. We aspire to earn your trust so that together we can work to create a positive culture that will help us deliver an experience worthy of your and your children’s time and effort. We all know that competition is an emotion evoking endeavor and at times these emotions could create negativity that will challenge the positive culture that is critical to us achieving our goals. We ask you to be mindful of your words, deeds and actions. Act in ways that promote unity and growth in all that we do.
